Making 5G Rollouts Faster and Replicable
XGP recently partnered with a multinational mobile network provider (MNO) in Europe to enhance their 5G service rollout for the automotive industry. This MNO aimed to deliver top-notch 5G services across multiple countries to support a range of major vehicle brands. Key requirements included excellent coverage, seamless roaming handovers, and stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
To meet these demands, the first step involved setting up a test lab in Germany to replicate the 5G NSA service in a controlled environment. Traditionally, this process is labor-intensive, involving hundreds of test scenarios. Manual testing would be incredibly time-consuming and complex, but XGP provided a unified end-to-end solution that streamlined this process significantly.

Key Advantages of XGP in 5G Rollouts
The testing approach with XGP involved several crucial steps:
- Low-Level Diagnostics:
- Performed tests to ensure proper connectivity and signaling using XGP’s capabilities.
- Each automotive customer received unique SIM profiles, requiring separate test scenarios for each.
- High-Level Test Cases:
- Validated a vast number of scenarios on the network.
- Examples include maintaining a data session while initiating a voice call and performing Inter-RAT and Intra-RAT handovers while the vehicle is in motion.
- XGP’s scripting capabilities allowed for rapid definition and repeated execution of these complex test cases, handling over 300 scenarios efficiently.
Once lab testing was completed, the network service was deployed across various countries. By this stage, XGP had developed a rich test suite for field deployments, which automated and expedited the validation process.
XGP’s impact was notable in several ways. Despite the test lab being in Germany, the team worked remotely from locations such as Portugal, India, and Israel, leveraging their specific expertise. XGP’s unified framework reduced the need for multiple tools, simplifying operations and making troubleshooting easier by comparing UE logs with network logs. Overall, XGP enabled the MNO to significantly cut down on both testing efforts and expenses, ensuring a faster and more reliable 5G rollout.
